Kellan McKensie, Princess of Errigal, is set on leaving for another world before being thrust into a plan of God's choosing that includes learning of her past, embracing her future, and finding her forever love.

Among a lost line of beautiful, wise queens and a conquered country still clinging to medieval traditions in today's world, can Kellan be convinced that now is her time to act? Why should she? To the entire country, she doesn't even exist. Ever the reluctant leader, Kellan is pressured to use her incredible God-given abilities to bring back the glory of her homeland. To do so, she must fight her own will, overcome fears, and control her temper. It's a lot to ask of a girl hidden under a cloak her whole life.

Excerpt
Once he was all suited up and his face was covered, the king made his way to the equipment room to choose a sword. The suit was binding him a bit, since the other guy was smaller, but it would have to do. Ian was what a seamstress might call extra, extra large. He wasn’t fat by any means, just tall and muscular, with big hands and broad shoulders. A gentle giant his mother used to call him, because he wore his heart on his sleeve…not in a negative sense, but in a caring, thoughtful way. It was easy for him to hurt his own feelings if he felt he had been “out of the way” toward someone. Needless to say, he had hurt his feelings more than once since Kellan arrived.
Walking over to the practice area, Ian saw that Kellan’s opponent, or former opponent as it now appeared, was on his knees crouched over with his face to the mat. Kellan was bent toward him with her hand on his back. As he got closer, he could hear her ask him if he was okay. Master Hewitt was watching, but looked up when he saw Ian approaching. Strange, the teacher thought, I don’t remember there being another. On top of it, he’s the biggest of the lot.
The fallen warrior staggered up, bowed to the princess, and made his leave. She always felt rotten when they walked away, or in some cases, were carried away. At least now she was done for the day. Directing her eyes away from the departing man, Kellan looked ahead to see another suited contender. What is this? She turned and walked over to the teacher.
“No, Master Hewitt.”
“Excuse me, my lady?”
“I said no. I’m not fighting anyone else today. I’m exhausted, and I’m putting my foot down.”
Ian was feeling disappointed, but he could understand her position. She did look worn out, so he kept quiet, figuring he’d have to try again another time.
“My lady, it appears you have one more. You know, when the day comes, you’re not going to have the liberty of deciding how many you will fight, nor how long the competition will last. And it really won’t matter how tired you are.”
Ian saw Kellan’s bottom lip start to pout. She looked like a little girl who wasn’t getting her way. Stepping back onto the mat, she looked up at Ian, and made a deep sigh. Even he didn’t want to do this now. He’d rather fight her fresh and give her time to rest up. Looking over at the teacher, he made a motion to suggest he would head back to the changing room.
“Oh, no you don’t, warrior,” said Master Hewitt. “Don’t feel sorry for her. Give her your best. She needs to be ready. Just keep in mind that you’re doing her a favor.”
Kellan rolled her eyes at that last remark. “And don’t roll your eyes at me, young lady,” the teacher added.
Ian found this very amusing. But that feeling didn’t last long, as Kellan took her stance immediately and gave him the challenge, “On guard, warrior of Errigal.” He could tell she just wanted to get this over with.
